Privacy policy

This is a translation; the Dutch version is leading.

Rentle is an app in which people rent clothing and accessories to each other. For that we need data from you. Here you can read which data, why, who we share it with and what your rights are.

Who we are

The controller of your data is Rentle B.V., Maliebaan 133, 3581 CL Utrecht, the Netherlands, registered with the Dutch Chamber of Commerce under number 42116800. Questions about privacy go to support@userentle.com.

Which data we process, and why

Your account

Your name, username, email address, password and phone number. With these you create an account, log in, and we can reach you about your bookings. We do not store your password itself, only an encrypted derivative of it. We also keep when you last logged in and were active.

Verification

We check your email address and your phone number with a code we send you, and we record whether your identity has been checked. People rent to someone they do not know; verification makes that safer. The codes, too, are only stored encrypted.

Your listings

Photos and a description of the pieces you lend out, with the price, the availability and the postcode where the piece is. We turn that postcode into a town and coordinates, so others can search by distance.

The location of your device

Only if you allow it in the app, and only while you use the app: to show what is for rent near you. You can withdraw that permission at any time in the settings of your device. The app never uses your location in the background.

Bookings and payments

What you rent or lend out, for which period, at which price, and how the booking goes.

Videos of the condition of a piece

At the handover and the return, renter and lender record the condition of the piece on video. Those videos are the evidence if there is a disagreement about damage later.

Messages

The conversation between renter and lender belongs to the booking and stays in the app. That conversation can also be evidence in a dispute. A message cannot be changed after it is sent.

Reviews

After a rental, renter and lender can review each other. A review is visible to other users.

Notifications

If you allow push notifications, we keep an identifier of your device to send you notifications about your bookings and messages.

Analytics and advertising

The app currently uses no analytics or advertising services. This website sets no cookies and loads nothing from other parties.

On which legal basis

Most of the above is needed to perform the agreement with you: without an account, listings, bookings and payments you cannot rent or lend. Verification and keeping videos and messages we also do out of our legitimate interest, and that of you and the other party, in making rental between strangers safe. We only use your location and push notifications with your consent. We also keep payment data because the law requires it.

Who we share data with

When data goes to a country outside the European Economic Area, that only happens with the safeguards the GDPR requires for it. For Expo in the United States, that is the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework, in which Expo participates.

We do not sell your data, and we do not share it for advertising.

How long we keep data

As long as your account exists. If you delete your account, we only keep what we have to:

How to delete your account is on Delete your account.

How we protect your data

All connections to the app and this website are encrypted. Passwords and verification codes are only stored encrypted, and only staff who need it for their work can access your data.

Your rights

You may access your data, have it corrected or have it deleted. You may also ask us to restrict processing, object to processing that rests on our legitimate interest, and request your data in a file you can take with you. You can always withdraw consent. Email support@userentle.com for any of this; we reply within a month.

If you disagree with how we handle your data, you can file a complaint with the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens).
